    Transformation Journey

    BBefore RK-FINFA

Despite his commitment to farming, Wambua struggled to scale his agribusiness due to limited financial resources and full reliance on rain-fed agriculture. His inability to access formal financing hindered his plans to expand production and improve farm productivity.

    AAfter RK-FINFA

Through RK-FINFA project interventions on business planning and access to finance, Wambua received training that equipped him with the skills to develop a robust and bankable business plan. With guidance and linkage support, he reactivated his dormant bank account and connected with Universal Traders SACCO, opening a pathway to formal financial services.

    Key Result

Wambua successfully secured financing which he invested in purchasing additional avocado seedlings and manure to improve his farm's productivity. The expansion of his farm operations also led to the creation of employment for two casual workers, in addition to his existing permanent worker.

    The Challenge

Wambua's farm was stuck in a subsistence cycle due to financial exclusion. Rain-fed agriculture made production unpredictable, yet he lacked the documentation and financial records to qualify for formal loans. His dormant bank account further limited his ability to engage with financial institutions.

    Main Challenges Faced

    • 1Full reliance on rain-fed agriculture limiting production reliability
    • 2Unable to access formal financing due to lack of a bankable business plan
    • 3Dormant bank account creating a barrier to financial institution engagement
    • 4No formal linkage to SACCOs or other affordable credit facilities

    RK-FINFA Support Provided

RK-FINFA coaches trained Wambua on business planning and access to finance. He was supported to prepare a bankable business plan and guided to reactivate his dormant bank account. He was then linked to Universal Traders SACCO which provided the credit needed for farm expansion.
